MATCH PREVIEW: Clash of the Past and Present- KDFC Face Rebranded Kafue Eagles!

Kansanshi Dynamos FC is set to face Kafue Eagles in Week-11 of the ZPL National League.

These two teams have a notable history, having last faced off in 2018 when Kafue Eagles were known as Young Green Eagles, under the sponsorship of the Zambia National Service.

In that memorable two-legged Super League qualification battle, Kansanshi Dynamos secured their first promotion after Young Green Eagles won 1-0 at Khosa Stadium—the same venue for tomorrow’s match—only for Kansanshi to level the score at home and ultimately triumph in a penalty shootout.

Now operating under new sponsorship and a rebranded identity, Kafue Eagles may see this match as an opportunity to revisit that rivalry and seek redemption for the decisive 2018 encounter.

Despite the points gap—with Kansanshi Dynamos holding second place at 23 points and Kafue Eagles sitting near the bottom with 7—Saileti’s team understands that standings don’t always reflect the intensity bottom-placed teams can bring.

Following a confidence-boosting victory over Chirundu, Kansanshi Dynamos hopes to build on this momentum.

The Coach has been emphasizing on adaptability to his players, reminding them that each game demands focus, regardless of the opponent’s rank.

Coach Zeddy Saileti’s Pre-Match Comments:

On Expectations for the Match:
“Our expectations are high; we’re determined to maintain our momentum and aim for maximum points. The game plan is straightforward—I’ve told the players that mental strength is essential since we’re unfamiliar with the pitch, the fluctuating weather, and the crowd dynamics. We need to be ready both physically and mentally.”

On Knowledge of the Opponent:
“We don’t know much about Kafue Eagles, but our focus remains on sticking to our game plan and following instructions. Our objective is to secure maximum points, whether we play well or not.”

On Managing Fatigue:
“The team is looking good. In the last game, it was individual players who seemed fatigued, not the entire squad. Fatigue varies with each player, and we’ve worked on recovery to ensure we’re on track.”

On Areas of Focus:
“We’ve focused on strengthening our midfield to maintain control, improve defensive transitions, and effectively connect defense and attack.”

Injury Update:
“There are no injuries in camp. We just want to play our game.”

The match is scheduled for Khosa Stadium at 15hours tomorrow.
