Week One || Ndola UTD 0 – 2 KDFC
Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club started their 2024/25 league campaign on a high, defeating Ndola United FC 2-0 in a week-one match played at Musa Kasonka Stadium in Ndola this afternoon.
Action began in the ninth minute, with Dave Daka attempting a shot on goal, but the ball went slightly above the crossbar.
In the 13th minute, Daka delivered another well-placed shot, but the Ndola United goalkeeper managed to push the ball out for a corner kick.
Marcel Kalonda received the first yellow card of the game—and the first for the team this season—in the 18th minute after a hard tackle on Brighton.
KDFC finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Tranquiling Mwepu scored his first goal on his debut for the Zeddy Saileti-coached team. Mwepu’s shot deflected off a Ndola United defender, giving KDFC the lead.
In the 28th minute, the hosts responded with a long-range shot by Saviour Kunda, but the ball went wide.
Another chance came for Ndola United in the 41st minute with a counter-attack, but Rodgers Lukonde reacted quickly to block the move.
The second half began with KDFC making a few changes. No significant action occurred until the 72nd minute, when the hosts were awarded a penalty after Marcel Kalonda committed a foul.
Our goalkeeper, Gregory Sanjase, put on a great display by saving the penalty, but the linesman flagged it for a retake.
Fate seemed to favor the Zeddy Saileti team as Brighton Kalunga missed the retake.
The Mabanga Boys capitalized on this situation, adding a second goal in the 84th minute through Dalitso Lungu.
The match ended with KDFC securing all three points, with head coach Zeddy Saileti expressing his excitement about the result.
“I am very excited because the players played according to instructions. It’s not an easy stadium, and the boys accounted for themselves very well.” Coach Saileti said .
The coach also added that the win is important, especially as it’s the first game, and will help build momentum going into the team’s second game against Prison Leopards at Independence Stadium in Solwezi.
